i don't like substack(i don't think it likes me)
it'll be so funny if this gets no likes again.
“I wanted to start blogging” I say to myself with joy in my eyes as I discovered a site for blogging.
I wanted to go on Squarespace but I have to pay for it and Wix is good until you realize that they are Zionist, or just from Israel, and you also have to pay for it. So a free blogging site that looks like social media? Of course! I started my account, spread it around and even invited my friends to subscribe to it. It was empty until I decided to write book reviews to make my account grow.
I mean it’s going since i started since, I think, August from last year.
Maybe write for yourself?
I try. I really do. But I want to be an author. I have to grow my following, my brand and. . .it’s not working on Substack. I started to go on Medium, posting on under a publication and it’s already better:
I guess that’s good. But that’s under a publication and even on a topic that I only write in a bluemoon.
Regardless, it’s better than substack. Still no comments yet. . .
I also write for myself but I like feedback, comments, ways I can engage with my. . .audience. And I don’t have an audience. I’m trying everything to grow it but it’s hard.
No traction!(writing stories)
Everytime I type, think, share, my substack. I get nothing. No likes and if I get likes, it’s on something I would write about in a blue moon. And if I get likes, it’s usually me. Let’s take a few of my posts for a second: my Beyonce post. I wrote an entire post about how much I like Beyonce and her albums. It’s a pretty long post but what did I get from it, after pinning it to my homepage?:
1 like and a couple of views. The like is from me by the way. So. . .nothing.
Ok maybe I needed to find something else to write about. I mean, a lot of people don’t like Beyonce for some reason. . .
So let me write about Sinners! That movie that just came out and. .
. . . .
So nothing. . .again. So maybe black topics are my target audience. My 3rd post was about black people and. . .
4 likes is really good for my 3rd post. So that’s what’s getting me traction. I’ve been posting about book reviews, my thoughts and feelings for a while and no one cares about that(i’m exaggerating), so let’s write more stuff about black people. So I made 3 more post after I discovered this and-
They all have one like. . .THAT COMES FROM ME!!!!
Nothing without an account
I’ve been thinking for a while that maybe the account thing is making it hard to like(and even comment). I’ve noticed on my sisters account that she can’t like so I’ll go into substack, on a guest profile, and see if I can comment!
So I can see why. This is a blogging site! There’s no reason we have to sign up to do it. Like why can’t we do it anonymously(for those who don’t want to sign up) and just like with a name and they don’t have to sign up! I mean I get why signing up exist.
I remember one of my friends when I first signed up, said she doesn’t want to put her email in a site she’s never heard before(she didn’t say exactly that but I assume that’s the reason.)
The fucking notes!!
I swear the same topic recycles my feed and it’s annoying:
“Substack isn’t a real social media”
“Share this post if you are. . .”
“I’m so glad I found a real social media app”
“Comment so we can find underrated stories.”
It’s feeling like bluesky. . .
I looked up ways to get traction on substack and one of the ways was posting on notes which I never do! So let’s see what—
Unsurprisingly, that didn’t work. I can’t complain ‘cause it’s like twitter where I get no likes anyways.
Uhh you’re complaining so much. Why don’t you leave?
I still love writing in Substack and posting on it and I kinda get traction when I post the link on instagram and facebook but on Substack, nothing. Hashtags barely work, I can’t get any likes on any of my recent post, limited customizations for layout for my website. and I don’t know what to do. I mean, i’m no celebrity but it’s kinda hard when you see people who have like 3 subscribers and they get so many likes and comments from their notes and then their 3 subscribers turn into 200 subscribers. I then I see that even if you have 200 subscribers then you might only have 2 likes on there. I kinda don’t understand substack. I’m just ranting at this point. All light hearted.
So no I won’t stop posting on substack. I’ll stop posting when I officially start on squarespace.
